Advent :: Day nineteen

The brevity of yesterday's post was entirely the fault of Mary Berry.

Let me put you in the picture... one week to go until Christmas, present shopping still not finished, presents that have been bought still not wrapped, local cards still not written or delivered, food to be organised and 20 people turning up at my house in the evening for our book club Christmas gathering. So what to I do... spend my day making a gingerbread house.

I couldn't help myself... and I blame Mary Berry for my insanity.

But it was worth it!

And it did make a lovely centerpiece at out party last night, where everyone contributed to lots of wonderful food and drink and several silly games. A great evening.

Now if you'll excuse me there is the little matter of shopping to finish so I'm off to Cambridge.

Thank you to everyone who is taking the time to read and comment on these advent posts... you are keeping me going! And if I don't have time to reply to you all individually I'm sure you'll understand that I'm probably busy making gingerbread houses or something else equally silly... but I do appreciate your support!

  1. I've always wanted to make a gingerbread house, yours is lovely. And I haven't finished anything for Christmas, not even started decorating the house, but there's a few days left isn't there!

  9. Saw that house on a TV programme the other evening and yours looks just as good. Might have to have a go myself to avoid all the wrapping/cleaning/ decorating/cooking needed here.

  10. Your little house is ADORABLE Gina!!! I didn't even know who Mary Berry was until last weekend. A friend at work told me about the Graham Norton show about 3 weeks ago and now I'm hooked. She was on the show last weekend. Very Fun!

  12. The gingerbread house is gorgeous and it's edible too so how can it be a silly thing to do?! I remember one of our daughters making something similar for baby sister's birthday. There was a problem with balance and we had to lean it against the dresser! Don't wear yourself out - happy shopping.

  14. Wow! I am seriously impressed. I watched that programme too and thought the gingerbread house looked far too difficult to attempt, but yours looks amazing.

  15. Gorgeous gingerbread house, Gina. Much better then the Ikea DIY ginger bread houses we use to make in the past. I love the boiled sweet windows. Still don't know where you get the time from to do this all.
    I hope you can put your feet up for several days after Christmas and live off leftovers warmed up by the men in your house! xx

  16. The gingerbread house is adorable and I don't know how you find the time and patience to complete such a masterpiece. I am thinking about attempting one of my own........

  17. Why not indulge in a bit of sillyness. Your house is better than MB's by the way. I watched, thought yes would love to make one needless
    to say it will not happen.

  19. You did it!! And you even have completed house photos ;) I think I'm finished shopping, but still have the wrapping. I've spent my time this week painting stair railings & window frames?! I think it's a stress reliever not to deal with the pressing needs of Christmas preparations. Enjoy your shopping. Wendy x
