You win some... you lose some!

I hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas. Ours was good... both busy at times with lots of family and friends and quiet at others with just two of us but I'm not sorry it's over. I enjoy all the build up and the actual festivities but feel a huge anti climax once it's all over and can't wait to get back to normal... although I fear "normal" could be quite a while.

We have a date for the washing machine repair... 7th January! Various bags of laundry have been farmed out to friends and relatives over the weekend and I did a huge load of handwashing on Christmas day. After three weeks without a washing machine I'll be glad to get it repaired. Meanwhile our boiler is still struggling on although leaking more and more water. The floor is covered in towels which we are wringing out every half hour. It doesn't leak quite so much when the heating is off so we are trying to get by without heat... but it's cold! Date for someone to come and give us a quote for a new boiler... 14th January!!! We did a bit of ringing round and have now found someone else who is coming tomorrow.

Enough moaning... as promised the giveaway for the book ...

All names were put into a Christmas dish...

... and the winner was picked... Dragonfly! If you email me your address Tracy I'll send a parcel your way.

Now I'm going to wrap up in a blanket, keep warm and enjoy some of my Christmas presents!

  1. crumbs! can you not organise one of those boys in your house to study plumbing boiler-fixing. They could probably manage a full apprenticeship in the time it will take for the other fellas to turn up!

  2. Oh Gina...no washing machine and a dodgy boiler over Christmas...as if it isn't all difficult enough! Why the coldest time of year for the boiler to blow???? I hope you get sorted soon. Ugh!

  3. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is a fantastic book! You are going to enjoy it. The sequel, The Girl Who Played With Fire, is also very good.

  5. Well done Tracy.
I can't believe you did hand washing on xmas day. I bet you still did the cooking. You don't have a lot of luck with appliances at xmas time, wasn't it the cooker last year? If I was you I'd go away for the festive period. I thought my cooker had broken but then realised that some one had pressed the cooking timer button thingy. My cooker never breaks it's not fair.
    Hope you warm up soon.

  7. Plumbers seem to be an endangered species - hopefully you should be warm again tomorrow and washing automatically again before much longer. Congrats to Dragonfly on winning your lovely book. I have the Jane Hall book - it's exquisite.

  8. What I meant to say was 'her work is exquisite'! I was distracted by my oven timer going off.

  9. Oh! No washing machine and a semi-defunct boiler at this time of the year is no fun at all! Keeping my fingers tightly crossed that both are soon fixed! Congratulations to Dragonfly on being the lucky winner!

  13. Yikes! That's a long time to go without a washer. And now that you mention it, I don't remember seeing any laundromats in England -- do you have them there? Have fun with your new gifties!
