A Frivolous Fairy

As well as teaching workshops here, there and everywhere (Tollesbury, Letchworth and Peterborough in the past week) I'm also four weeks into my MA and all day Tuesday was spent at the University of Hertfordshire. We've finally started to move on from the "getting to know you" games and at last I feel I'm ready to get to grips with some research and possibly even make a start on some practical work. I'm quite determined not to lose sight of the fact that I'm doing this for fun... but it can still feel quite intense at times, so it has been a welcome relief to be stitching something frivolous in the odd free moments during the week...

At the beginning of the week there were wings... sparkly fairy wings.

Then there were some very sparkly fairy shoes, because all fairies should have twinkle toes.
(Pattern by Annette Emms from Workshop on the Web)

Then finally this morning the whole lot was assembled...

and the result is a rather loud "Diva Doll" fairy.

as yet without a name (suggestions most welcome!)

The reason behind this frivolous fairy is that I've been teaching a two day "Diva Doll" workshop at Art and Stitch in Peterborough and I'm back there tomorrow where I hope there might be some bodies finished to attach to all these heads!

  1. Finally caught up on your blog during a quiet day at work. I love the divas and that last little book is precious - can't believe you managed to fit 64 pages in! Have been looking at different Upper Schools for my 12yo for next September, who is captivated by all the possibilities on offer in the various Arts departments. Hoping to stretch her interest further than just fashion design - I'm sure she'd love the fairy shoes you made!

  2. Oh this post has made my day - the fairy diva is just so cool! She must be, because her top is made from one of my most favourite Kaffe fasbrics....

  13. Certainly frivolous, with her buxom bust and legs a kimbo, she needs a name that reflects her naughtiness. but nothing comes to mind tonight. Great work, I really must finish the doll I started two years ago.

  17. Dear Gina,
I too have to remind myself on occasion to have fun.... I love your Diva Fairy and she simply sparkles with joy. I too am starting a creative project as a way of coping with stress. Have a lovely weekend.

  19. She's absolutely brilliant, such fun! She looks to me like a bit of a New Age Hippy (apologies if that's offensive to any New Age Hippies reading), especially with her wonderful dreadlocked hair - do New Age Hippy Fairies exist?! Anyway, a name like Haven or Sorrel seem appropriate.

The pile of heads IS a rather disturbing image, I'll be happy to see them attached to their respective bodies!

    Glad you are having fun.

    xx
