Floored!

The private view of the exhibition last night was excellent.
There is a fabulous selection of work on view ranging from the most exquisite traditional hand stitching to innovative work that pushes the boundaries of embroidery and textile art. In addition the gallery is light and airy and the work well displayed. It is well worth a visit if you are in the Letchworth area.

There were many pieces of work worthy of photographing but I've just picked one or two pieces from people I know well enough to know they won't mind me putting pictures up here.

Sue's stunning hand embroidery.

Margaret's machine embroiderered bouquet

Brenda's fabulous painterley landscape

And a brilliant large work of printed and stitched fabric from Marian

Also it was very exciting for me to see the work from my Young Embroiderers displayed along with that from our older members. Don't their leaf embroideries look fabulous?

I only had one small critisism of the whole exhibition... who on earth decided it was a good idea to hang my piece that had been used for the poster under a window? I didn't even notice where it was for about an hour and several others said they hadn't seen it at all which is hardly surprising since most of us are over 2' 6" tall!

So when Marian suggested that we each have our photo taken with our work... there was only one thing for it really...

It's not the first party where I've ended up on the floor!

  3. What a wonderfully varied collection of works - wish I lived near enough to see them for myself. How odd to hang your piece like that, but it does make a lovely picture with you beside it!

  7. Lovely work I like the fields too, how strange to hang your work there, did you ask why?

  8. Ooh dear, not such a good hanging decision, that one. I'd even ask them if they could find another spot, I think. Looks like a lovely show -- I must try to get over there.

  9. Great exhibition, really high standard! But you'll have to get your piece moved, that's bonkers.

  12. Not the first party where you'd ended up on the floor...? I'd heard those rumours but had not believed them.... now I'm not so sure.... really like that top photo of the striking hand embroidery piece. What a fabulous way to demonstrate what can be achieved with needle, thread and imagination.

  14. Some kidsfrom an art group came into the exhibition today, and did some drawings. One lad drew yours, not sure if it was because he really liked it, or because he could sit down and do it! x

  15. I wish I was close enough to visit- the pieces look beautiful. I can't imagine why anyone thought it was a good idea to put your lovely embroidery under a window! How bizarre!

  16. Yes, I see this at my craft group exhibitions - good pieces of work hung so low you can't view them comfortably. Generally I think it's because there's no restriction on how many entries people are allowed and hanging space is limited. Anyway, it's one of my pet hates and definitely not good enough for your piece of work.

  17. Oh dear, that does sound a bit insulting! I think having you gracing the floor in front really adds the right element to the whole piece however ;) The works that you've shown are simply amazing! I'm always so surprised to see how people can "draw" with fabric and create such stunning visuals. Thanks for sharing! Wendy

  21. Luckily I caught up with your blog in time for us coming to Cambridge this week (for the Beer Festival) so we will be able to detour slightly and have a look at the exhibition on our way. Wish I was there for the bake off - your cakes look absolutely scrummy!! They always do make me drool.
