Day Three :: Shop Small and Local

I'm sure I am not alone in that I love Christmas but I hate the consumerism that goes with it. Overstuffed supermarket shelves and overcowded shops leave me cold, so as far as I can I like to resist the advertising and the hype and support smaller shops and businesses. I pick up gifts here and there as I see them in little independent shops and try to make bits and pieces too. I buy my tree, vegetables and meat at local farm shops and butchers. And occaisonally I spot something beautiful in an Etsy shop.

I first spotted a pair of gorgeous "Nib" earrings on Annie's blog and I headed straight to Kfiatek have a look...  And seem to have bought myself a little early Christmas present.

  1. I love those earrings! Now all I have to do is pluck up the courage to re-piece my ears after letting them grow over!

Totally agree about the buy local and independent :)

  5. Gina...your nibs are so lovely. I've ordered some, too, and am eagerly awaiting their arrival over here.

It's grand to support an artist who's doing something uniquely hers.

  9. With you on the ridiculous consumerism.

However, I do love December, the lights and music, specially here in Canada.People have been celebrating the shortest day of the year for ever.

  10. Well now, that has completely trounced my very short 6B pencil earrings! Those are lovely, I admit that I was tempted too when I saw them on Annie's blog but I resisted...

  13. They're lovely! I try to buy everything locally too, it's a nicer experience and stops me from getting too bad tempered!

  15. Not sure I can cope with you blogging every day in December- I've already spent too much money having bought your crackers instructions and now the nib earrings oh and added the book from Annie's blog to my cart which will no doubt be bought very soon. Love the blog and have lurked for at least a year now but this is the first time I've commented- just the sort of reader you don't want:-)

  17. I agree with all you said here about consumerism etc etc and I love those earrings. I shall have to have a pair even if I have to buy them for myself as a present! If you find anything else with similar style let me know. You do the leg work and I'll just pop along and buy things you pick out!!!
