Day Four

I learned something today.
That one 50g ball of Debbie Bliss Riva will make a pair of Maine Morning Mitts.

But it's a bit touch and go... this was all that was left... I kid you not.
I had visions of a mad dash to the yarn shop as I need them for tonight.

I started them last night and finished them about an hour ago... just in time for our book club Secret Santa this evening... a little 'Look after your hands' package.

Trouble is I quite like them. Is it bad form to pick out your own secret Santa present?

Oh... I thought so... but it was worth asking.

  1. They look good, I shall explore the links in a while - dare I buy some yarn? I have lots in the garage but most of it is thirty years old and mostly 4 ply and pale. I so want to start knitting regularly again; I also need some mittens like these, my poor hands hurt so in the cold. I think you could quite easily take them home again as a gift...;-)

    They do look great. :)

  3. Hope they don't read your blog...
    naughty Gina... I would.
Did you do exactly as pattern. Strange and spooky was thinking of using my Riva for same pattern.

  5. Oh I love it when that happens and you have no wasted yarn - very satisfying! What beautiful mittens they are too and they look wonderfully warm and snuggly, a perfect look-after-your-hands pressie. I hope you get a lovely secret santa present in return x

  6. I can see that only having that much left would be rather panic inducing! They do look lovely and warm, someone is going to love them :-)

  7. Just the thing for blogging with cold hands! Isn't it lovely when you have just enough wool to finish the item and no little left overs that you don't really want but can't throw away? Someone is going to get a really lovely gift.

  10. I would have been panicking with only that small piece of yarn left! Perhaps you need to knit another pair for you? On the other hand, would anyone know...............hmmm

  11. They're fabulous, Gina , no wonder you don't want to part with them, and how lucky were you to have enough wool!

  12. They look brilliant.I would be loathe to part with them. I have started mine. I hope they fit and look as good. I used 4 ply hope that was right. It's so long since I knitted any thing but socks..Annya

  13. Buttock clenching suspense as you knitted those last few rows eh? Ha! Ha! I would desperately want to keep them for myself, they have such pretty colour variations.

  14. These are indeed beautiful Gina, lovely colour variations in them! Somehow, no matter how much you love them I know your own sense of fair play would win out and you couldn't pick your own out. It's just not in your nature so go on , treat yourself and make another pair (but use a different yarn for sewing up just in case!)

  15. Haha -- that's what I call living on the last-minute gift edge LOL. Great job -- they're beautiful!

  16. I wouldn't blame you for wanting to keep hold of them, they look very toasty warm! I'm currently struggling to convert two jumper sleeves into wrist warmers, trying to stitch through the cut loops of knitting so they don't unravel. Maybe it would have been easier to knit something like these!

  17. Ooh they're lovely and I'd have been tempted to choose them too!

Did you find yourself knitting faster and faster as your wool got less and less?

Just wondered...not that I do that or anything....

    xx
