Wow!

The David Hockney exhibition was amazing!

Winter Timber, 2009, David Hockney RA
Oil on fifteen canvases.

I had seen images of some of the paintings but nothing prepared me for the intensity of the colour. It was outrageous, preposterous even, but dazzling and wonderful too... quite mesmerising. Despite tickets being sold out on the website there seem to be plenty available from the desk at the Royal Academy, so if you can do go! If time and money weren't an issue I would go back over and over again. It made me want to abandon my sewing machine and get out my paintbrushes.

  3. I too was quite blown away - and am going again in a couple of weeks! I think they have made more advance tickets available on the website - the queues last week were horrendous - perhaps because it was half term?

  5. Its funny but his pictures make me want to try to replicate them in fabric and stitches. Something to do with the fact that he does them on his ipad I think.

  6. Such a brave use of colour and so exciting. Those paintings make me want to interpret them in fabric and stitch.

  7. There's a Culture Show special next Monday BBC 2 at 7pm "David Hockney: The Art of Seeing" should be interesting. I got 4 free postcards from Radio Times a few weeks ago will probably be the nearest I get to seeing or owning one of his paintings.
