Comfort Zone

I'm not a very good example to my students. SPECTRUM, the group that I mentor have their first exhibition together, opening next week at Art Van Go.

I have been nagging them for weeks that their work has to be finished and ready for hanging. |There was no way that I would accept work finished at the last minute... and yet this was mine just a week ago... and we hang the show on Monday.

I did finally finish it last night, although it still needs to be mounted and framed.... but I've got tomorrow!

I always do work better under pressure and when I've got a deadline but even for me this is cutting it a bit fine.

But I know this is because I'm not really pushing myself. I'm fairly pleased with the finished result and feel I've done a good job but I knew once I had worked the sample a couple of months ago that it was not much of a challenge. I'm working well within my comfort zone.

My real challenge now is to push myself outside of that zone and to take my work further... but meanwhile ladies of SPECTRUM... it's a case of do as I say not as I do because I'm a very bad example!

  1. Know the feeling, I am busy working on my Material Girls project. I'm like you and work better under pressure, but I'm never going to do this again. Too much stress and self inflicted, so no sympathy. Love your work.

  7. Love the daisies Gina - beautiful stitchery and lovely textures. I can't work under pressure and need things to be done in plenty of time but if your results are anything to go by maybe I should change my ways!

  8. They are lovely - but I think the biggest challenge is how we manage to get to AVG at all tomorrow!

  10. It may be in your comfort zone but still very pretty. Perhaps now that the exhibition work is out of the way you will have the time to push yourself more.

  11. Wow , it was worth the wait though as just look how gorgeous your creation has turned out! Can I pick your brain on freestyle machine embroidery? I have given it a go on my Janome (will post piccies on my blog soon) but the thread at the back of the fabric is very loose (the thread from the stop spool) - any ideas on how I can rectify this? Thanks x

  12. Love those pieces! I wouldn't say I work well under pressure, it's just that I leave things until the last minute - not quite the same thing at all!

  14. Looking good, Gina - it's great to see the finished article! Nothing like a bit of adrenalin to get work finished...
