When I was researching paper cutting for my recent degree module, I became fascinated by the work of
Sarah Morpeth, especially by some of her pop up style books. Following some photographs of her work I made some simple cuts on white card to work out the structure.
I make no claims of originality here, as these are copies of Sarah's ideas, but I enjoyed the process and decided to try out a colour version as a stand up Christmas card.
And this was the result...
Quite simple cuts, combining holly, ivy and some robins...
but quite effective too. This is certainly something I would like to try more... when I've got the time!
I rather like the shadows it created too.

Ooooohhh lovely. You would get some lovely shadows using a tea light. Obviously adult supervision would be needed :-)

I love your cut out cards Gina. I saw some amazing cut-out pop-up book pages in THE Crafts magazine some time back - the artist was Su Blackwell. The intricacy of her work is incredible and the effects are stunning.

Gina, that cut out is fabulous, not just your mastering the technique, but also the beauty and grace of how the images relate to each other in three dimentions. Wow!

Thos cut outs are a brilliant take on an old method. Have you come across Tord Boontje and his cut out work, they are truly inspirational. I would love one of the light shades he has designed.

I am VERY impressed. A safer idea many be one of those battery t lights. The shadows would be great with less chance of burning the housevdown x

There are some fab papercuts on the addenbrookes art walk at the moment not sure who they are by.
