Advent :: Day Sixteen

Did you think I'd forgotten all about day sixteen? I've been busy all day!

This morning I had an overwhelming urge to tidy up and clean. I did consider having a lie down until the feeling passed but no... Feeling brave I donned my Marigolds and have swept and mopped and dusted all day long. And when everything was bright and shiny I decided I would put up the tree and decorate it.

And when it was done I felt a little bit sad because I realised not a single other person in my family really cares less whether we have a Christmas tree or not... and in fact not even one of them has even noticed that I've done it yet. So I'm sitting here on my laptop where I can see it it and enjoy it. And I'm thinking I might not bother next year and I'll see if anyone actually notices. (They'd soon notice if I made them beans on toast for Christmas dinner!)

I don't care... I like my tree!

  1. Oh I think you'll bother next year Gina! :)
It's looking lovely Gina and who cares if they don't notice, you're enjoying it!! Well done on getting a good photo of it too, I can't get a good one of mine at all!!

  2. I know that feeling so well! - like you setting up your tree, often after I've done something, I think nobody else is going to even care. But you know what, if you enjoy the tree, that's what counts. Thanks for sharing the tree with us, it looks just lovely. And congratulations on the amazing house clean - and if no one else notices, you (and we!) know you've done it.

  3. Just finished doing our tree... chose it, bought it, brought it home, unloaded it, chopped the end off, put it in the stand, decorated it and admired. All by myself. So little red hen of me. But I know when the Smalls and BigBean get home they will appreciate it very much. They'd better anyway...
Yours looks gorgeous and even if it is just for you, that's all that matters. Ax

  4. I understand the feeling. I have gone out of my way to make things special in my home and no one has noticed. It's funny how easily we can be taken for granted. I have a little one right now, so she makes a big deal about the Christmas tree every single year. I think I will be crushed when this magic ends for her. I love your tree! I love the colors :-)

  6. While DH helps me to put up the tree, he's not keen on decorating it, so that seems to have fallen to me........and I still enjoy it and want a tree. I can't imagine not having a tree for Christmas. Enjoy yours, and make merry!

  7. I love your tree - I thought perhaps I wouldn't bother this year, but guess what - I have a decorated tree and some other decorations all round my house now! Cheers

  8. I was surprised this year, my hubby has earmarked a tree on our land for the christmas tree. It needs to go anyway as two are growing quite close together. Normally it is I who decides that we need a tree. I guess it helps we have loads to choose from that are growing where we don't really want them

  9. What a grumpy lot! I love your tree. Does it smell lovely too? Ours doesn't, which is a shame. I can never remember which sort to get for the fragrance, but then I can't afford to be picky - we just picked ours up at the farm shop, and got the smallest one we could as we've got such a tiny house! Luckily Girl loves decorating it, so I left her to it with the tinsel and baubles.

  11. Catching up with the button garlands post and now the tree! It looks lovely Gina and they will notice it I'm sure. Perhaps the reflection from all those shiny surfaces you've polished has made it impossible to see straight away.... please pace yourself with the cleaning. I think you should have had that lie down!

  12. I too, have to clean the whole house before Christmas decorations go up. My husband isn't bothered about a tree either but ours is going up on Wednesday. He thinks a week before Christmas is 'plenty early enough'. Your tree looks beautiful - enjoy.

  13. Oh, do put up the tree next year, Gina. I live alone and last year decided I really didn't need to bother with it and regretted it terribly. We are worth putting up a tree for. (Excuse ending the sentence with a preposition--you know what I meant.)
thank you for all your lovely, inspiring and entertaining blogs this past year. have a merry merry and a most happy new year!

  14. As long as it makes you feel good, Gina. My hubbies working away from home this Christmas, but I still decorated the tree and house just for me. I'm like you, I love a little sparkle here and there, and its only once a year, so its worth the effort. Enjoy!

  15. We had a tussle this Christmas too, trees have become so expensive now, in the end my DH put the tree lights in our window and we put up our motorhome 2 foot tree in the small window. We also drive around with a small tree in the van, so it's made a pretty good compromise.
I'm sure they'd be quick enough to notice if there were no decorations and the house was a bit grubby round the edges, in fact I know they do as we now share the housework and it's my DH the's the first to say the flat needs a Hoover.

  16. Ahhh, the perils of living in an all-male household. Your tree is beautiful -- I'm glad you did it, even if it's just for YOU!

  17. It looks beautiful, you did a fantastic job! Last year it was left to me to decorate it alone because no one else wanted to. (I didn't want to!) I even left the decorations out fr several days hoping that someone would do it but I could see that they'd still be there after christmas! This year the grumpy teenager actually volunteered and it looks beautiful. Can you BELIEVE it?! I'm so proud. :) Have a wonderful christmas Gina.

  19. That is a lovely tree Gina! No one helps me either. This year I'd had enough & showed them snacks I bought & said they could eat them if they helped. It worked. My mother used to moan "If there were no women, there'd be no Christmas traditions". I think she was feeling the pressures of having to do everything herself too. Wendy x

  20. I don't think my husband would care about not putting up Christmas decorations either. They would certainly miss all the food though.
