Guerrilla Embroidery

Banksy meets Textile Art?*

"My work is about the change of use of the site and the personal stories associated with this. In an age where the majority of us have a mobile phone, public telephone boxes are rarely used, yet what is the cost to us as individuals - to our privacy, our peace and quiet, our health?

We have moved from being trapped and isolated inside the claustrophobic space of the telephone kiosk to being able to make calls anywhere - on the train, in restaurants, in the street. Yet my figures are still trapped. I have used lace and sheer fabrics to convey these ideas. We can see through the layers to hidden depths and the fabric becomes a metaphor for the stories.

I hope that by putting the work in such a public location, it will raise awareness of textiles as an artform, bringing it to a larger audience and in turn, maybe that will encourage more people to visit my Open Studio to see what else I do. But most of all... it was just a bit of fun!"

My studio is open as part of Cambridge Open Studios on 9th & 10th July and 16th & 17th July. Full details of  can be found on the Cambridge Open Studios website or email me for more information.

  9. Now that's clever - clever work and clever marketing for the Open Studios. What a great way to both visually and metaphorically showcase your ideas and direct people to your way of thinking. Give that girl an A**.

  13. What can I say but absolutely BRILLIANT!!!! So agree that textiles are an artform, it annoys me when some so called experts call them craft in such a derogatory way.
