Moving On

At the end of last year my lace book Lacuna and main sketchbook was sent off to my tutor for marking. We usually receive our work back and then we have to arrange to send or take the work to a moderation day in Colchester. As my tutor was also attending moderation day, we agreed she would bring it with her and I could just bring along my other sketchbooks etc.

Best laid plans and all that... my tutor was ill and couldn't come to moderation day. She posted the work but it didn't arrive. She emailed my marks and they didn't arrive. I remained calm and unflustered despite my work apparently being on a lorry somewhere between Ipswich and Colchester... possibly never to be seen again!

But all's well that ends well. The work turned up and is back in my care... my marks arrived and I was delighted (my best so far thanks to the help and contribution of many blogging friends) but now it's time to move on to another module.

This term I'm taking Professional Practice which is all about art markets, CVs, artist statements, galleries, funding opportunities etc etc... not a stitch in sight! I'm trying to stay very positive about something which sounds very dry because I know how valuable it will be and how badly I need to address some of the issues.

And I've made a start. I was mortified to realise my website hadn't been updated for a year... but I've begun to rectify that. There is still much I would like to change with the layout and whole look but I think that will require professional help from someone with more knowledge than me. But at least for now the page advertising my workshops contains up to date information should anyone be interested. What do you think?

  1. I'm sure the next module will be a mine of useful info. As for your web site - it's nothing to be embarrassed about - it looks neat and accessible.

If you want to change things I wouldn't spend out a lot of money, just make sure it's easy to update, as easy as a blog. There are lots of free templates, eg: www.freecsstemplates.org or subscription ones that are not too expensive www.Foliosnap.com.

What a huge relief your book is back home, we all knew you'd get top marks for it ;-)

  3. Congratulations on your marks. Was it ever in doubt? If I can help with any sales/marketing info for your next module please ask. Before I semi-retired I made my living from it for many years and used to do consultancy. Always happy to lend a listening ear or provide a sanity check! Lesley

  7. The lace book is just so exquisitely beautiful, and the idea behind it so creatively unique. Congratulations on the appropriately high marks!

The updated courses/workshops page on your web-site looks good to me. Thanks for the Cottenham info, I keep thinking I must find out when it is this year - and you've saved me a search!

  9. It's good to see your lovely lace book again - glad it came home safely and congrats on the good marks. I've just had a look at your website and if I lived near enough would be tempted by several of your workshops. The gallery pieces are gorgeous. As a whole I found it very attractive and interesting. Best of luck with your next module.

  15. What a unique art! I love lace in combination with handmade books. In fact, I'm sort of into that, also. This also gives me some other ideas. Thanks for sharing.

  24. I studied Arts Administration at university and was very worried about the art business modules (as opposed to the history and studio modules, which were much more in my comfort zone). But the business modules actually turned out to be really interesting (and some of my favorite classes!).
