B...b..b...b...Brilliant!

We went to see "The King's Speech" last night

When films receive as much hype as this one, I often find I am disappointed, but not this time. The script was funny, sensitive and intellegent and the acting was fantastic all round... Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush especially. Although it is set against a backdrop of the abdication and the rise of Hitler, it is a very personal story that is ultimately about friendship. I can thoroughly recommend it!

  4. I saw it here in Oz a couple of weeks ago and I thought that it was brilliant as well.
I thought that all the actors played oustanding roles and I can't remember when I have enjoyed a movie as much as this one.

  6. I have only heard good reports of this film and look forward to seeing it myself. As a child I can remember listening to radio broadcasts of various speeches by the King and we would all will him the ability to get through without too much difficulty - each one must have been such an ordeal. What a brave and lovely man he was. He really didn't want to be King, but did an excellent job for us all.

  12. We also went to see this last night! Absolutely brilliant. Our little cinema has had to put it on two screens such is the demand. Quite a bit of the script has already made it into the vernacular of this household as well...

  24. Oh I cannot wait to see this, such a wonderful cast and story. I have very much enjoyed the Radio 4 play on the same topic, it was repeated recently but not quite Colin Firth.

  25. Oh I agree, Gina! My girls and I saw it when they were all home for Christmas break. We ABSOLUTELY LOVE Colin Firth, and he did not disappoint!!
I expect that he'll win an Oscar (finally) this year.
(He was robbed last year when he didn't win one for "A Single Man"..
    what a powerful film!!)
