French Knits...

Remember some time ago when I confessed to finding some knitting lost and forgotten about down the side of the sofa? No... well, it doesn't matter...

Because I finished it! And what's more... I really like it, which is unusual for me as mostly when I knit things for me to wear they end up too big and baggy (I know... I know I should knit a tension square) and I never wear them.

I'm not quite so keen on my inane attempts at a selfie using my iPad...

What possessed me to grin at myself like some demented woman...

Not much better with the camera and the mirror... but you get the  idea. The yarn, which was beautiful to knit with, is a beautiful organic wool called Gilliat from a French company de rerum natura.

And the pattern... well, I seem to have mislaid it... but when I find it down the side of the sofa I'll let you know! The best thing about it was that it was knitted all in one, so no seams at all, just sewing in loose ends and putting the buttons on!

I was so pleased that I entered it into the homecrafts section of our village show last weekend and it got second prize! I didn't mind it coming second because my socks came first!

I'll be back next week with some new deep and meaningful work ;)
Meanwhile I'll leave you with cake just because it is the weekend.

Must fly... we're off to a "French Evening" at our village hall. Not sure what that will entail but these village things are always a laugh and it's a good chance to catch up with lots of people.
Hope you have a good weekend... doing anything fun?

  1. Wow Gina, it's gorgeous! No wonder you're so pleased with it.

Hope you have a fun evening. I've been living it up cutting out patchwork pieces from charity shop shirts!

  2. Looks lovely, I have a track record of knitting jumpers that I don't like when they are finished, or they don't fit.

  3. I love the cardigan ...and I'm in awe of those socks!

  4. Both the cardigan and the socks are great, well done you. I've got a 1/2 finished jumper looking at me at the moment but I'm wary of doing any more to it until my arm heals properly. Cake looks nice :-)

  5. Now that is really nice.
I keep meaning to take up knitting again and learn how to do it properly. I do use one of my previous attempts for gardening though..

  8. Hope you enjoyed your French evening. Well done on the two wins at the show, first and second! That is great isn't it. Love the cardigan and the selfies, you did really well with those, I end up with the ceiling, the floor or a close up of my hand! Happy Weekend. xx

  9. Gina, I think that your newly completed cardi is tres chic and suits you so very well. I love subtle neutral yarns that are friendly to knit.

Your yarn choice is all of that and more. Bravo on the perfect sizing and finding this pattern that doesn't require seams.

Now...on to those jolly socks...the colors are beautiful, and having the solid color toes and heals adds to their stylishness. No wonder you got those prizes!

  10. Love the cardigan and am glad you finished it - it was worth doing, wasn't it? Congrats on the first and second prizes - the socks are great. No cake for me thanks as I'm going to a party tonight and will probably eat too much there.
Are you wearing your French cardigan to the French Night?!

  12. having followed your blog for a couple of years now Gina - sounds like you have a lovely village community in your area. Do like the pattern for your cardie and well done on the placing in the village show. Nearly time to get the needles out again as winter gets closer.

  16. Congratulations on winning both first and second prizes--you are a knitting (as well as a baking) genius! I do remember your post about the knitting discovered down the sofa--and so glad you rediscovered it--so beautiful. And I agree re no seams--once I discovered knitting in the round there was no going back! xx

  17. I have a friend who used to knit stuff that sold in Harrods and she continually bleats on about the tension square and blocking out etc. Now you know I don't like knitting at the best of times but if I start something and she mentions the dreaded square I stutter from the outset. I never thought of making a hidey-hole in the sofa so that I could lose it. Good ruse Gina..... might use that one myself one day!

  18. Now that's a good pattern no sewing up always the worst bit about knitting. Well done 1st and 2nd prize that's brilliant. I was at Yarndale this weekend so I've come home with an overload of wool (impossible to have an overload I know) just need time to knit it all up before a return visit next year. I might have to start hiding my stash down the side of the sofa especially as most of the cupboards are full!
