Rich and Thick

When Ali posted her resolution to eat more delicious food in 2014 I couldn't agree more. As eating is a necessary part of our daily lives I've always believed that we should make a point of enjoying it as much as possible. I love to cook because I love to eat! I absolutely loath the idea of dieting and depriving myself of delicious food... although my scales this morning suggest that perhaps that is what I ought to be doing this month!

But manana... this evening I've cooked one of our favourite dishes... Cuban prawns (I don't eat meat but do enjoy fish or shellfish occasionally)

... otherwise known in our house as Paris Hilton prawns. It is a recipe cut from the newspaper where the instructions state... "simmer the sauce slowly until it takes on a Paris Hilton like quality - rich and thick since you ask". Yes, naughty I know but it still amuses me every time I cook it. And it does taste so very, very good with its chilli, lime and cumin flavoured sauce.

especially when followed with a thick slice of chocolate cake.

Ah  yes.... manana

  1. That cake looks rather too good. I haven't made a big chocolate cake for ages, may be "forced" to make one this week - I shall blame you for the extra pounds gained!!

  2. I'm not into deprivation either, although I probably should be but I'm going to walk more this year so I should be able to eat the same....right???
    That cake looks good! :)

  4. Those prawns look delicious! Yesterday my friends and I were in a new coffee shop/bistro that has opened in the village where they serve the most delicious food, we had just gone in for coffee but we're given a complimentary dish of prawns in a thick tomato sauce to try - it was amazing!

  10. My husband does the bulk of cooking in my house, and my daughter gave him two new cookbooks to help things out there ;) I love to cook too, but since he started cooking I've fallen very far away from it. Your prawns look yummy ... as well as that towering chocolate cake!! Happy New Year Gina! Wendy x

  11. Gina, yum, yum, and yum again. Your 2014 is definitely off to a fabulous start with your talented cooking an baking.

You've reminded me that it's been a long, long time since I've prepared, or even eaten, either shrimp or prawns. Thank you. I do hope to remedy this within the next week.

It is so much fun to visit hereabouts! xo

We always have a few staples in our weekly diet... my boys are so fussy they wouldn't cope with too much new stuff!
