Day::Two

 I finally got around to decanting the sloe gin that I made x number of years ago. It has been lurking in a jar at the back of a dark cupboard for longer than I can remember

The colour and clarity aren't bad.

But I have to admit, although the flavour is okay it does leave a certain dryness in the mouth that is bordering on unpleasant!

But as I had already filled up these cute little bottles from Lakeland I figure they'll still end up in Christmas stockings. It'll be fine mixed with some tonic, ice and lemon!

  1. Looks good Gina! I prefer a dry Sloe Gin, better than a very syrupy one. A Sloe G&T sounds very nice indeed :-)

    I did a blog post every day of advent last year... but have missed day 1 now, and know I will miss a few more.

  3. I'll be ready to bottle mine this weekend. I can't see it being allowed to mature for one year, let alone x number of years!!

  4. Gina you leave a lot to live up to - blogging everyday up to Christmas, don't think I could even pledge to comment on someones blog everyday!!
    We have a lovely syrupy sloe gin - rather good as a liqueur.

  5. I agree about the tonic/ice/lemon - I made some last year which was a bit too much like cough syrup. Then again, there isn't any left now...I gave some away as presents, together with some spiced vodka - most people swigged both by January, but I've seen a couple of bottles lurking on a shelf when I've visited others during the year. Would it be rude to ask for it back?!

  6. I've made damson gin this year - some of which I'll give away, the rest is for me! I love it but there's never any leftover for the next year!!

  7. I have damson gin kicking about from last year, and I am heading to Lakeland to buy those very bottles for potion making tomorrow ... best I don;t get the gin mixed up with the ingredients for the kids' stockings then!

  8. I've never tasted sloe gin as I am no drinker so I would not know if this was a good or a bad vintage Gina, although I suspect one look at your face if it is as dry as described would give me a pretty good clue!

  11. Snap! I did mine last night too, but it's only been steeping 9 months. What gin did you use and how much sugar?

  12. I love Sloe Gin - we have several years worth in the cupboard under the stairs, but it takes a brave person to venture into there for ANYTHING! ;O)

  13. The best sloe gin I ever made was the one that got forgotten about in a cupboard for several years.
