Day :: Twelve

The chair in Jacob's bedroom collapsed, beyond repair. So he borrowed one from the dining room. But we needed the dining room chair when friends came for dinner so we took it back and instead he took the chair from the study. Needing to work on the computer, I then took a chair from the kitchen. It was obvious that our little game of musical chairs couldn't continue so I took a trip to the local DIY store and invested in a new study chair.

As these things invariably do, it came as a flat pack, but I am one of those weird people who actually enjoys putting together self assembly furniture. I like the challenge of interpreting the badly translated instructions ("can't use hammer" was a good one... I can, watch me!)

Making sure all the components are there and following the instructions step by step... I failed on the first one that said work on a carpet because we don't have carpets downstairs. I wasn't going to carry the finished item around the house.

Nearly there... (note to self... must clean that floor)

Ta Dah! My finished chair. After all, when you're writing a blog post every day you do need a comfy chair. Although between you and me, I'm currently sat up in bed with my laptop waiting for it to be light enough to walk the dog!

  1. Wow! I'm so impressed I can't read diagrams to savey life! I'm sitting up in bed top waiting for the laundry to be open.

  2. I'm with you on the flat-pack assembly glee! The musical chair scenario has made me giggle too ; )

  4. Shhhh, I like self assembly too. My crowning achievement was building a bed in a room which had only 18 inches to spare around the edges of the bed frame ...

  5. Have a gold star Gina! My husband - who can make just about anything from wood - would still be swearing at the instructions and I wouldn't have even started trying to assemble it.

  6. Excellent Work Ms. Gina! I always laugh at those instructions -- sometimes you have to wonder who wrote them. Looks like you have a swanky, comfy new chair.

    (And Whoa! My word verif. is "sperm". What's up with that???)

  7. I always say if you can piece together a dress pattern ( you know the sort, with collar, cuffs, facings etc) putting together a self-assembly piece of furniture is a piece of cake, as long as it doesn't require brute strength (in my case). Hope you've got that chair tied down, who knows where it'll end up otherwise!

  8. A nice comfy chair is a necessity. I'm sure the other members of the family will appreciate the wheels, it will be so much easier to play musical chairs.

  9. I am totally impressed Gina. The bit in my brain that enables me to read AND understand written instructions and diagrams appears to be missing !!

  11. Now that is a comfy looking chair! But I'm glad our Whippet stays tucked up in his PJs until gone 8 o'clock - thankfully nobody needs get up early to take him out in the dark and the rain! He'd much rather stay in bed. Our bed for preference, but he can dream on...

  12. I'm very impressed with your self-sufficiency! My Dh's computer chair keeps groaning which is a bit dosconcerting so he may well need a new one soon. I shall know where to come when we need it putiing together ;-)
