When Alice posted about her beautiful Hyacinth bowl I was reminded of something I did years ago when I used to do silk painting. The Blue and White China company where Alice's bowl came from are fairly local to me and I know Andrew and Olwyn who own the company. Several years ago I was commissioned to paint a tie in the Blue Italian style for Andrew's 50th birthday
It took me several attempts, I ruined numerous ties in the process and it ended up costing me more money than I charged... but I was quite pleased with the end result. However... I no longer try to earn my living by silk painting!

"Been there", "read the book" re not charging enough. He did, however, get a wonderful "conversational piece" though, didn't he? It looks really rather beautiful in the picture.
ReplyDeleteOh Gina you clever clogs you. That really is very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh Gina, that is wonderful I bet he was delighted with it ..love Jan xx
ReplyDeleteBlimney, that's stunning. Is there no end to your talents, Gina? It's just as well I already know you're lovely or I'd be green with envy :-)
ReplyDeleteYou did an excellent job gina, it's a beautiful tie and I hope he enjoyed wearing it, or maybe kept it fo rbest?
ReplyDeleteThe tie is beautiful and the perfect gift for the owner of the Blue and White China Company. I think many of us could look back on a commission and think 'I didn't charge enough for that'. It's so difficult to price one's own work.
ReplyDeleteThat really is a beautiful tie. I hope you feel very proud of your achievement I'm sure Andrew did when he wore it.A Ferrari original!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful tie - clever you!

Too bad it took so many tries but it is simply gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThats an absolute triumph!
ReplyDeleteOh that tie is lovely I adore blue & white china - it reminds me of my childhood as it was on the dresser at home never used of course!!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful Gina! I don't think silk painting caught on here quite like it did in Europe. My sister's German MIL does some pretty silk painting and a few years ago I tried to find supplies here and wasn't very successful. It's something that I always thought would be fun. I love your pretty blue and white!
ReplyDeleteThat tie is incredible Gina! Too nice to be worn really!!!
ReplyDeleteLucy xxx
Goodness that's amazing!
ReplyDeleteGosh you are so clever that tie is fantastic and in my favourite blue & white transferware. I have been to Andrew & Olwyn's place and bought some of my first pieces from them over 10 years ago. Haven't been for ages since I discovered Ebay and auction rooms myself which is where most of my collection comes from. I collect B & W vintage children's china too and will have to do a post myself about it one day.
