"Hello Cambridge..."

Last night I went to a gig... standing room only in the back room of a Cambridge pub along with several 17 and 18 year olds. I'd like to say it made me feel young and trendy... but it didn't. I thought most of the music (for want of a better word) was noisy and tuneless and the singing was more like screaming (apparently that is what all "Nu Metal" sounds like... which shows what I know.) But I did think this band was rather good...

Jacob's first gig with his band "The Restless Beards"

Over thirty years ago I saw David Bowie sing "Jean Genie" and last night I watched Jacob do the same... along with four other songs that they'd written themselves.

I was impressed! They were good... well done Jacob, Matt and Rory.

Do you think David Bowie's Mum came to see his first gig?

  4. Great isn't it, we've been going to gig's for the last 10 years to see our son. For a time our daughter was in his band too! At first we thought we'd be the oldest there, but usually we're not. Some of the bands have been truly bad, but there's always one good band on, perhaps we can be biased ;) Mx

  7. I'm sure Bowie's Mum did. You must have been really proud of him. Stewart's son has started playing in a band recently but we haven't managed to see him perform yet.

  8. Yes I think she did, but he wouldn't sing "in the heat of the morning" infront of her as she thought it was "dirty" ... LoL!! xx (I am Bowie obsessed by the way!). x

  13. I bet David Bowie's mum thought the music on the night of his first gig was noisy and the singing was screaming. That's the way of the world...

    Congratulations to your talented son.

  14. Oh how great - what a proud moment - or did he say Mum do not embarrass me!!!! I wonder if Bowie said that to his Mum.
