Ouch!

I had a lovely day at the Festival of Quilts on Friday and spent most of my time meeting friends and chatting to people rather than looking at quilts and spending. There were a couple of purchases... some gorgeous new Rainbow threads for finishing off a secret project.

And some fabulous yarn for the making of another secret project.

And a roll of Worn and Washed fabrics for a project that will probably never happen! Much as I can admire the amazing skill of so many of the quilt makers I'm still not that taken with the majority of the quilts... they just don't really do it for me. However I was drawn to the gorgeous soft faded quilts on Kim Porter's stall. Kim collects fabrics from charity shops etc and washes and recycles them into quilts... so the fabrics are for my very own quilt. Don't hold your breath!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch I decided to do a little gardening on Sunday morning. Whilst diving into the undergrowth to cut off a courgette I managed to stab my eye on a jagged stalk of corn... "Oh dear that hurt" were not my exact words but I'm sure you can imagine the response... I looked something like this...

I ignored the stabbing pain in my eyeball and the feeling of having small boulders lodged under my eyelid for most of the day but by evening it was apparent that it was not easing so we had a quick dash to A & E where it was confirmed I had a cut above the pupil, was given antibiotics and told go home and keep my eyes shut! That's all very well but I've got projects to finish and work to get done so today I'm going for the pirate look. Do you think it will catch on?

Blimin' dangerous this vegetable gardening!

I know what you mean about quilts... only a tiny minority really hit the spot for me.

  6. ooh you poor thing...that sounds terribly painful... i almost daren't ask if the cougette was tasty...hope your eye is healing well now.
i went to the festival of quilts too but on saturday... i also like 'worn and washed' fabrics... as i like the fact that they are recycled. it was my first visit to the festival so it was overwhelming... many quilts are not to my taste either but the time and work that had gone into each one i found so inspiring...the techniques used interested me the most though and my favourtite quilt was not made of fabric at all but paper labels.. that recycling thing again! thanks for popping by the blog.. wishng you a lovely week sweetmyrtle ginny x

  7. Arrrgggh, Gina lad! Sorry - couldn't resist. I do hope it feels better soon - it sounds very painful indeed.

Ooh I bought some lovely somethings from worn and washed around Christmas time after Katy (GM) posted about her. The fabric is now my dining room curtains (patchwork of course).

Sometimes I'm baffled by quilts and quilt designs too but some of the ones I've seen that featured at the FOQ are quite lovely.

  9. Ouch - eye things always hurt like mad. Heal fast. And while you are, you can always amuse yourself by talking like a pirate.

  10. OO Arrr, Captain! Or should that be Eye Eye?! Ouch, that sounds very painful. I hope it heals quickly altho you could have hit on a new look there. BTW I thought eye patches were oval? Just a thought.

Those threads are gorgeous and I was very tempted by those Worn and Washed fabrics too.

    Keep away from viscious Cornstalks!

  11. That must have been horrible for you, and yes, the pirate look is very racey! I do hope your eye is healing well and more comfortable soon, if not now. I love the look of the threads you bought at FOQ. If I wasn't so lazy I'd go myself.

  16. Well, somebody has to make the tasteless comment about it giving a new meaning to "patch"work quilts! Hope your eye recovers very soon and look out for those vicious veges.

  17. Arghhhhh, hope your eye feels much better soon. I still maintain that the scratch Tall Small gave my eyeball by poking me with her sharp little finger was more painful than recovering from a Caesarean. I am afraid I took to my bed for a day and slept as I every time I opened the other eye the damaged one hurt.

  23. That sounded very painful and I bet you only wanted that courgette so you could cook it!
I hope it doesn't cause you too much of a problem and gets better soon.

  24. Oh Gina, Its sounds so painful, I know veggies from our gardens taste best, but maybe going to the supermarket if safer! Take care and try and rest the eye with lots of naps, like the patch by the way. Mx
