The Good Life

Thank you so much for all the wonderful comments left about Jacob. He really has appreciated reading them all.

Despite my injuries of last weekend it was no use... I was going to have to venture back into the vegetable patch...

Which meant of course I had this lot to deal with (not to mention the carrots and runner beans)

I started by pickling the beets...

And then made some bruschetta to be enjoyed in the garden with a glass of prosecco. I might not have got back to Italy this year but I can dream.

Then the plan went horribly wrong. Continuing the Italian theme there was meant to be a courgette frittata but after a second glass of prosecco I couldn't be bothered! So instead we had a tomato salad with Friday night's left overs.

I did make cookies though!

  1. You look as if you have had your own Harvest Festival and Market Kitchen rolled into one. All the produce looks wonderful. Nearly every time I read your blog there are temptations to lead me astray - and you know I am easily led.

  4. I love that: "...just couldn't be bothered...." decision. I think it's
just what's needed at such times. A little proseco. Some good fresh tomatoes. What more is needed? Oh. Cookies. Of course. Invite me over. Please?

  5. Wow - seriously impressive haul of home grown produce there Gine - well done.

And a belated well done too to your son. It sounds like it was a hard slog for you all, but wow - what an admirable result. Well done Jacob.

  6. Just a thimbleful.....

Oh Gina, I must come and inspect your vegetable garden -how can your results be so much better than mine? Does the secret lie in the soil (you are only a few miles away) or the watering or the nurturing? The caterpillars have eaten all the leaves on my brussels sprouts! But I DO have a marvellous crop of cultivated blackberries and apples, pears and figs so I just have to enjoy those and buy my spring onions and beetroot!

  11. Mmmmmmm. And I say again, mmmmmm.

I am rather horrified by your lack of quaffing stamina though. We'll have to work on that ... ;-)
