Five random things from my pretty random week...
1 Flowers
Four weeks since I broke my ankle and my house is still filled with flowers that make me smile and cheer me up. Lovely gifts from friends, including roses and freesias from my husband.
2. Embroidery
For the first time since my accident I worked a full day teaching this week. I was apprehensive as I'm still getting very tired and most afternoons have a couple of quiet hours with my feet up. But despite my fears it went well and these are the little stitched pictures made by the ladies in the class at Art Van Go - many of them just beginners. I was shattered by the time I got home but it was worth it. Now I'm steeling myself for a whole weekend away teaching and wondering how I will cope being away from home.
3. Crochet
I'm keeping up with my Frida Kahlo Crochet Along blanket and love the crazy colourful flowers on this week's block.
4. Cake
Well there's not a week goes by without cake, and after the outrageousness of Elvis popping out of a D.I.Y. disaster last week, this week's cake seems very tasteful. My brief was for a white Christening cake, with minmal decoration... perhaps a few flowers, a name and maybe a touch of pale pink. I reined in my natural instinct for over the top decoration and think I've met the brief. I hope Abigail's Mum and Dad think so!
5. Puppy Love
No words really... just can't wait for this little chap to move in with us!
Joining in with Amy for Five on Friday.
Love the grinning cat! I only wish you would teach up here in Glasgow. Wishing you good luck for your weekend teaching, I hope it doesn't leave you too exhausted. x
ReplyDeleteYou certainly rise to all the challenges you commit to. Love these random things - the crochet blanket takes crochet blankets to a new level but that gorgeous puppy tops the bill! Hope the weekend goes well for you - look after yourself, though I think your students might do that.
ReplyDeleteFew things make my heart melt like a puppy! And I'm enjoying your flowers. There are only a few open here right now, and it's rainy and cold today. Enjoyed!
ReplyDeleteHope all goes well with your teaching weekend and that you don't overdo things. That little puppy is gorgeous, who could resist!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful embroidery, well done for getting back to a bit of work it must be hard. Love your new puppy I bet you are so excited! Take it easy this weekend. B x
ReplyDeleteThe puppy is adorable and I love the stitched pictures. Take care of yourself on the weekend away and try to rest as much as you can.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable puppy <3 And beautiful flowers. I wish you a prompt recovery.
ReplyDeleteWhy am I always licking my lips when I read your blog??? That cake looks perfect! Love those pretty embroideries too -- especially that cute cat!!!
ReplyDeleteA post full of loveliness. Flowers, embroidery, a puppy and cake - what more could you want!
ReplyDeleteA lovely post full of yummy things.I love the stitchery
ReplyDeleteA broken ankle, ow! Broke my arm as a child and that was bad enough. Puppy is so cute! The flowers are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAn assorted collection of beautiful things. Hope your teaching weekend works out well. :-)
ReplyDeleteGina, you've delivered a fabulous Five for Friday.
ReplyDeleteFreesias and roses are beautiful together, and their scents blend well, too.
Your embroidery students have such differing approaches to design, it must make teaching really fun. It will be interesting to see how they develop their use of this technique.
The christening cake is perfection...bet it tastes wonderful, too.
Frida crochet along colors bring you back into a very colorful domain after the discretely lovely cake.
And that puppy...oh, that puppy!
Best wishes for the weekend...do try to find time to rest. xo
Wonderful moments from your week!! I hope that your ankle keeps getting better and that you will be alright doing your teaching and baking activities. Keep taking care and getting well ready for the new puppy!! Thank you for joining Five On Friday this week, hope you have an enjoyable weekend!
ReplyDeleteNothing stops you Gina! The embroidery done by your students is amazing. I hope the weekend teaching goes well, I am sure your students will look after you.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers and the crochet and the cake are all lovely.... but that puppy!!! How many days to go now?
pearl necklace for Abigail, two 'appy cats
ReplyDeleteand I'm sure your students will look after you
Oh wow - he's so cute xx
ReplyDeleteCatching up with your news I'm sorry to hear about the broken ankle. It sounds as if that doesn't stop you from your teaching commitments. Not only must your groups appreciate that, but I'm sure you get satisfaction from seeing the results of their creativity. The cake looks lovely. A gorgeous puppy coming to your home will be a great experience. I'm envious because I would love one, but have to resist at the moment because of our lifestyle. I hope your weekend away teaching goes well and you can put your feet up next week.
ReplyDeleteI love the cheesy grin on the cat and the beautiful cake but I think my fav five this week has to be the puppy.....adorable!

What a lovely collection of images for your Five on Friday, your puppy is absolutely adorable.
ReplyDeleteI love the colours of the roses and freesias.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers and what a darling your husband must be to choose freesias and roses. Both such beautiful lingering scents. Something to enjoy when you're taking those couple of hours rest. Good girl.
ReplyDeleteHow on earth you machine embroider with a broken ankle I don't know. I presume it must be your non machining pedal foot!!
Does the puppy have a name yet?
I'm sure the other Friday four are lovely but all I see is the cutest pupster!
ReplyDeleteWell done on getting your first teaching session behind you. Best of luck this week. Once you get through that I'm sure you'll feel you can master anything! The crochet are incredible! Love what your students come up with (great class title). Don't you wish pups could stay small forever, especially with the saggy, furry coats ;) Instead of sitting in a flower pot, just imagine that cute doggie sitting in a mixing bowl with cake batter on his nose ... awwwww (still adorable?). The christening cake is so sweet, and I'll be the parents were so pleased.

Wow - quite a week, flowers, cake and a puppy! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are able to take a class even though you have a broken ankle Gina. The little pieces of stitching are beautiful and the puppy adorable.
ReplyDeleteCakes, flowers and puppies, how much more adorableness could you fit it?! X
