A Delayed Start

I  really think the New Year should officially start on 2nd or 3rd January. It's not that we tend to do wild New Year's Eve parties or anything but a late night combined with probably too much food and more wine than usual, make for a fairly low key start to the month.

It has become a bit of a tradition that we join friends who live just up the road for supper on New Year's Eve... usually only half a dozen of us. This year I made an clementine ice cream Bombe as my contribution to the meal. My version didn't look quite as elegant as Nigel Slater's in the Sainsbury magazine but it tasted pretty good and we all had second helpings!

Going with the chocolate orange theme I also made some macaroons and chocolate and orange Whoopie Pies. The Pies looked pretty horrendous and lumpy compared to the macaroons but there were none left at the end of the evening.

We did manage to get all the Christmas decorations down and put away this morning and had a walk as it was such a lovely sunny day for a change but since lunchtime I've not moved from the sofa. The New Year with its new energy and resolutions will begin properly tomorrow.
I hope your celebrations were good!

  1. Much the same as you Gina, joined friends to see in the new year and took the tree and decorations down this morning! No walk though as the energy levels are low due to a rotten cold! :(

  4. Sounds like a bit of over indulgence there Gina, never mind! I'm sure once in a while it's ok, you'll soon bounce back to your dynamic self! Hope you and yours have a Happy and Healthy 2013 and who knows we may actually meet up this year x

  5. Best wishes for 2013, Gina. I hope that it is not as testing as 2012 but that it brings good things on the way.

I am afraid that I am matching you - sofa for sofa but I am back to work tomorrow so I am not feeling too guilty.

  7. I have been very lazy since Christmas but did manage a walk in the sun this morning. Can't even look at any more 'fancy' food! The decorations are still up, but will be packed away by the weekend.

  8. Happy New Year Gina! It was such a lovely day we had to start the year with a trip to the coast :-) But we were in bed by 12.15am and hadn't consumed any alcohol. As for the decorations - I stick to the 12 days of Christmas and will pack them away at Epiphany (though the Christmas Tree may have to go before it sheds all its needles!!!)

  9. Join the club, the New Year was off to a sluggish start this end too, we had a walk in the sunshine, then spent the afternoon on the sofa watching TV. The New Year will start tomorrow .

  17. I am thinking I might tackle the decorations today. Not really looking forward to it much though. The house always looks so shabby afterwards.

  18. Happy New Year Gina! I am very tempted to take the decorations down today - which is very unusual for me as I usually leave them up till the last possible minute. Small people are pleading for them to stay up till the weekend though, and they may well win.
