This year...

Steeple Morden.

Next year...

Probably not... my Victoria Sandwich

and Cottage Loaf both remained unplaced.

But let me tell you... the competition is quite ruthless in these little English villages. It's rolling pins at dawn come Harvest Fair time!

  1. I watch the Great British Bake Off with envy but also wonder - why on earth would anyone put themselves through such a stressful experience?!

I'm sure you'd be an absolute star!

  2. I'd give a second opinion on that cottage loaf and the Victoria sponge if I could.

  3. Well done! They all look delicious, even the 'unplaced' ones :-)

  4. But where do you find the time for all that delicious looking baking?

Well done for the firsts and the second!

  6. You should give cookery classes. Not sure that I agree with the judges about the Victoria Sandwich, looks good to me, as does the cottage loaf.

  8. Well done Gina, I think 2 firsts and a second is excellent and I do know what you mean about country shows, the competition is fierce!!!
Do you need some one to come round and help you eat it all?? ;)

  13. Those judges are far too picky! Congratulations on the firsts and second. You are right about the stiff competition in country shows. I'm afraid I follow my grandmother's line where cookery is concerned. She was always satisfied if it tasted good and it usually did.

  14. Well done you! I am always too terrified to enter our village show. A lady I know called Olive always makes a clean sweep anyway!!

  15. Congratulations! (Is that my scone recipe I see before me garlanded with accolades?)

  16. Gina, your baking skills are very, very impressive. I am curious to know how you manage to submit so many entries...must they all be baked within the same brief window of time in order to be super fresh for judging?

Or let me ask this another way, just how or how, dear Gina, do you do it!

  22. Yeah, but did any of the judges look like Mr Hollywood??? I think I could handle the rejection if it came from him. PS Those scones look so inviting. Something I've never mastered so no competition from here x

  23. If there were a Nobel Prize for scones (and when I rule the earth there WILL be), these would definitely be contenders.
