Shimmering Sheers

One week ago I was teaching machine embroidery to someone as young as 10 years old....

and yesterday I was teaching machine embroidery to someone as young as 87 years old... which is fantastic because it just goes to show, age is no barrier when it comes to machine embroidery!

I spent Saturday in Suffolk with sixteen lovely ladies from the Stitch Skills Swap Shop, teaching a class called Shimmering Sheers.

Lots of sheer fabrics combined with plenty of sequins, beads, foils and sparkle and the ladies all went home with a little sparkly bag and several twinkling flowers.

You can see Jacky's results here and I'm sure there will be lots of pictures on the 4S blog very soon. And if you fancy a "Shimmering Sheers" day I will be teaching the same workshop at Art and Stitch on May 21st.

Although if you belong to a Guild or a stitching group I could bring Shimmering Sheers directly to you... whether you are 10 or 87! Just get in touch.

  1. Maybe I could just offer you free accommodation in Latvia :o)? Such a shame that I can't really get to much these days being out in the sticks, as I remember many moons ago, thoroughly enjoying an Art Van Go session at our embroidery class. Sorry can't remember if it was you or someone else who was teaching it but I loved my Markal oil sticks purchased at that time - which reminds me, must get some more.

  3. Another range of beautiful samples Gina - it's the sign of a good tutor when the students turn out such lovely pieces. How lovely to have such a wide age range among your classes. We're never too young nor too old to learn.

  4. isn't that satisfying to find interest in such a wide age range. It's lovely that stitching is taking off and isn't just something vile you had to do at school any more.

  5. Thanks for putting on the picture of the bracelet. I had another go at the braid this afternoon, machine still didn't like it, even after a clean and new needle, so I gave in and made one from totally different threads. Hopefully carry on tomorrow at 4S.

  13. Gina, I have said it before and will say it again. How do you possibly find time to do all that you do?

I bet that some of the older embroiderers in your recent machine embroidery class also told you lots about their wealth of hand-held needle embroidery. What a wonderful opportunity to trade info, stitch by stitch.

  17. Gina this is stunning work and I think it's wonderful you get a complete range of ages joining your workshops.

I also enjoyed your previous post about the Foundlings Museum, I must try and get to that before it finishes next month.
