Five on Friday - My Week

It's not all cake and baking in my house you know... Although you would be forgiven for thinking that! So just to prove otherwise a quick round up of my week and I'm joining in with Amy for Five on Friday

1. Dog walks

The weather really has been wonderful around here lately. Although the temperature has dropped we've had some fabulous bright days and Hector and I have been out for several walks every day.... I tell you, I'm nailing that Fitbit target! I was practicing his "Sit & Wait" while I took the photo. He was practicing his "What on earth for?" look.

The colours of the leaves and berries have been spectacular.

2. Sunsets

Our last walk in the evening has coincided with some spectacular sunsets. I'm trying to enjoy them and ignore the fact that it is dark way too early!

 3. Foraging and Jam making

I've come back from walks laden with crab apples and rosehips in an attempt to recreate the wonderful apple and rosehip jam we had on holiday. I failed because I've made a concoction that tastes only of sugar... but it's a pretty colour and tastes okay on toast. And talking of jam I've "lost" eight jars of apricot jam that I made in the summer. We haven't eaten it, I've not given it away so I must have put it somewhere safe. Where on earth does anyone hide eight jars of jam? No... I don't know either but I'll let you know if I find them.

5. Halloween

I carved a pumpkin for the doorstep and then worried I'd made it too scary. But I'd underestimated the children of our neighbourhood. "Your pumpkin is awesome" from the mouth of a five year old! I think I took inspiration for his teeth from my Victoria Sponge.

5. Baking

Okay, I tricked you... I have been baking... just a little bit. No cake but I did make these gingerbread biscuits for the Brownies' halloween party. And then just because they were fun to make I made more for the Farm Shop.

So that's pretty much my week. There has been some sewing too but that can wait for another post and now I'm back to making cakes. Three this weekend but is meant to be wet so it's a good excuse to be inside.
Whatever you are doing, have a lovely weekend!

  4. Beautiful photos of autumn in all it's glory. We have had lots of lovely days too.
Love the gingerbread men and the pumpkin. Have you got a cupboard under the stairs where those elusive jars of jam might be?!

  5. I LOVE your gingerbread skeletons. And besides - what's wrong with being 'all cakes and baking'? I wish I was better at it. :)

    1. I am always aware that what started out as a blog about mostly textiles and art has morphed into a food blog. But then I guess that's a bit like life and I have been doing it a long time!

    2. no worries.
Your baking is still art and 'edible textile'

  10. Love the skeleton ginger bread people! I just go back from a walk with Jack, it was beautiful outside. The joys of working at home sometimes! x

  11. That's a fab five, Gina!

All of a sudden, Hector is looking quite like a dog, less like a puppy. At least in a still photo! xo

  12. Popped in just to be nosy and felt it would be rude not to say that I liked your photos; and I hope the jam turns up. Could it be under the bed - somewhere cool, anyway - maybe someone will come to a sticky end... Sorry!

  13. What a great group of five, Gina! Your pumpkin is wonderful - so glad the five-year-old liked it and told you so. Enjoy your walks - I don't mind getting out in almost any weather. Good for the body and the soul.

  15. What a clever idea - turning gingerbread boys into skeletons for Halloween.

Look under your bed for the jam. I found one of those under bed storage bins full of books under my bed the other day.

  17. Lovely autumn colours there, and Hector really shows up well against the red bushes. He doesn't look like a puppy anymore :(
I laughed at your comment about the Victoria sponge teeth! haha! I've made some scary decorations in the past and yes, some of the kids won't come to the door. It's hard to do "cute" at Halloween. Your pumpkin carving skills are right up there with your cake decorating! Love the ginger skeletons ... such a great idea ;)

  22. What a fantastic autumn post! I think this autumn has been one of the best, especially with the variety of colours this year. Now, get back to your baking!! xx

  23. Looks like a good week. Love the gingerbread skeletons and the Jack o'lantern. One of the little halloweenies who called on us said, 'I like your pumpkin'. His sister said, 'I like your door'.

  24. That dog looks adorable. When we're out walking the woods we notice that we're the only ones without a dog but I'm not sure we should get one just as a walking accessory! He has grown a lot hasn't he? Don't worry about the jam. It will be well matured when you find it again and think of your delight when you do! A dry weekend down here and I agree about the weather. How can this be November....?
