Today, my baby is 21.
Regular and long time readers will know it has not always been the easiest twenty one years.
There have been problems along the way but despite all that I wouldn't ever want to change a thing... well except his diagnosis of type 1 diabetes when he was 15 because that just sucks!
He has grown up into a lovely young man.
And today we celebrate with two cakes... a toffee cheesecake at Jacob's request.
And a Grumpy Cat cake because that is what I felt like making... and Jacob likes him.
I think we can allow a little sugar on his birthday.
Happy 21st birthday Jake!
Happy birthday Jake - enjoy your cakes, they look delicious!
ReplyDeleteGreat cakes! Happy Birthday to Jacob- the time just flies!!!
ReplyDeleteI went back to read your earlier post ... what a whirlwind in his early life, and how discouraging were the elementary school & teachers. Congratulations to both of you for battling on and finding a place that could actually help him rather than hinder. Happy Birthday Jacob! The cakes are amazing ... love the grumpy-faced cat! Wendy xo
ReplyDeleteHappy 21st Jake!!!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your two cakes. :)

Happy Birthday Jacob and congratulations. Have a great life.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Jake -- I hope you get to have ALL those Rolos to yourself with no side-effects! Beautiful cakes!
ReplyDeleteCheers to you Jake on your two-cake Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Jacob. A good week to be born in.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good one Jake, with a Mum like yours how could you not.
ReplyDeleteI'm new to your blog and came via needlework blog links. I had to leave a comment - I also have a son with type 1 diabetes - age 13 now, diagnosed at age 4.T1 diabetes presents so many challenges and can be hard to parent but it does lend special poignance to those milestones like birthdays. Hope you both have a great day and best of luck.
ReplyDeleteI think I started following your blog after your post about Jake. you've certainly had some tough battles Gina. I expect it's made you stronger too. he's lucky to have such a fab mum on his side who's able to stand up to the authorities who think they know better. congrats on his 21st birthday
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Jacob, from yet another of your mother's mad ageing buddies.
ReplyDeleteCakes look fab Gina xx
Happy Birthday Jacob! Loving the grumpy cat cake!
ReplyDeleteI don't expect there's any cake left by this time of the day so I hope it was well enjoyed. It surely was! Happy Birthday Jake and Happy future too!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to 'the lad'! The cakes look good! x
ReplyDeleteI am sure the cake has all disappeared by now - Happy birthday Jake, keep enjoying life for many, many years to come. I have two daughters in law with type 1 diabetes - challenging but they both have great lives. Cheers
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Jacob on his 21st birthday! Love the look of that toffee cheesecake.... when's the party?
ReplyDeleteHappy 21st birthday to Jake! My 28 yr old youngest son also had his birthday on the 3rd and I made cake too!
ReplyDeleteI too read your earlier post and it reminded me of my parents similar struggles with my youngest sister and getting the right help for her. I'm happy to say Tracy is celebrating her 43rd birthday in a couple of weeks and she is living an independent life with her family close at hand.
ReplyDeleteA very Happy 21st to Jacob and I hope he gives the last Rolo to you for being a great mum.
Happy 21st Jacob! Well done.
ReplyDeleteAnd Gina, kudos for being so strong, and standing up for your son. The experts don't know it all.
Both cakes look fabulous and delicious!
Time flies. Happy belated birthday!!

PS I know he's still your baby and when you look at him he's still the baby in the first photo - or is that just me and Twiglet ;)
