On my needles...

I have a rather gorgeous scarf...  (Liz Corke's Storm Warning)

When I saw Annie's version a few weeks ago I knew it would be the perfect project for some rather beautiful sock yarn I've been hoarding. The lovely deep variagated red Madelinetosh wool seemed to good to use on my feet... but I can't wait to wrap it around my shoulders.

It is a lovely pattern with the cable and beaded edge offering enough of a challenge to keep it interesting, yet I can just about manage it whilst watching TV... except for all the beads I keep losing down the side of the sofa. I think it is a good indicator of how cold it is at the moment that I have also managed to get quite a few projects off my needles recently... (I always knit more in the winter)

a pair of socks for me...

a tiny little cardigan for my new great niece... born just yesterday. I had so much fun finding all those different coloured buttons from my stash.

Another little cardigan for Anna's new grandson. This is Annie's beautiful Demne pattern and it really is the most gorgeous drapey little jacket.

And perhaps most impressive of all, I finished this scarf which has been on the needles for ever. It is a pattern from the Rowan magazine no. 26... which was published 13 years ago... which was probably just about when I started it! I would often pick it up for a few nights and then abandon it for a new project and it just never seemed to get finished.

But I needed the needles for yet another new project and rather than buy another set, it spured me on to finish. I'm rather glad it did because I actually quite like it... and if this cold weather persists I'm going to need it!

Annie has written a post all about this today... starting new projects, hoarding yarns, whether to frog or to finish. I guess there are lots of us the same when it comes to knitting! Do you suffer from knitter's guilt too?

  1. I've never done beading in knitting, yours looks lovely. I have 2 projects on the go at the moment, both cardigans but one is a very lacy summer one that may or may not be finished this year!

  8. I am guilty of having knitted three cardigans for myself this winter! I'm trying to repent by a bit of charity knitting now.
I love your socks and scarves - the beaded one is lovely. I've never tried that.
The baby jackets are so sweet and the Mums will love them.

  9. Beautiful, beautiful scarves Gina. Oh how I wish I could follow a pattern. I have many odd balls of wool and have to stop myself buying new balls of the gorgeous yarns that are in the shops. I have started many projects, but have to admit I just can't do it!

  10. Gina, every single one of these knitting projects is a gem. I also enjoyed reading Annie's post about finished and unfinished knitting projects.

I actually enjoy having multiple knit projects on the go...particularly when they are on differing size needles and using a variety of yarns. Depending on available natural sunlight or electric nighttime light, some knit projects are more appealing. When working with subtle colorways, I really do prefer (or even require) natural light.

  11. I feel guilty about everything else; why would knitting be any different?

I think your Rowan scarf is lovely. If I didn't already have so many projects on the go I'd be tempted to cast it on myself!

  12. I look forward to seeing the red scarf finished. The baby jackets are very cute I love the stripey one with the different coloured buttons. The grey scarf is very nice as well I like the pattern. I'm envious of all the things you have managed to make, maybe I should stop walking.

  13. You've been doing some beautiful knitting Gina. I love both of the scarves. I have knitter's guilt too -- been thinking about a sweater that's very, very close to being done -- must get back to it!

  15. As I said recently, I am away from blogland trying to finish projects. However, I have discovered and tried new things along the way so am going to have to be more self disciplined. I am loving that bottom scarf. It's a beauty.

  18. Now Gina, you know knitting is not for me but I do so envy your stamina in finishing these things. The little jacket for Anna's grandson is gorgeous and, perhaps it's because I love the colour grey, I also think the Rowan scarf is beautiful. It may have taken a decade or more but it is worth it. Very classy. Just like you!

  19. You are a knitting machine!

Isn't Storm Warning just the most perfect pattern. I've yet to block the first but I've just ordered more yarn for a second.

So glad you liked Demne, it's a fiddly thing I know but I think it's worth the effort (but then I would hehe, I designed it!)

And that last scarf is great, clearly worth the 13 year wait! :D

  20. Well funnily enough I have some very similar wool in my stash waiting to be turning into a scarf! I might put that off for a few months now because I'm hoping the weather will turn springlike and i won't need it just yet. That's my excuse anyway!xx
