Little Boots

It's not been all cooking round here this week. In between some serious cutting and sticking (this is degree level cutting and sticking you understand!) there has also been some knitting.

I recently made a pair of these little booties (pattern HERE) for my friend's new grandson... he was seven weeks premature and I didn't think his tiny feet would ever fit into them. But they did and were much admired and I was asked if I could make some for another friend's grandaughter.

And so this little project has kept me busy this week.

What is interesting is that my "cutting and sticking" research has been about gender specific textiles and here am I merrily churning out blue boots for a boy and pink for a girl. Food for thought! (Although to be fair I was asked to make pink ones)

  1. They are sweet! I know what you mean about the gender specific baby colours, my niece's clothes are almost all pink! When we have kids it'll be yellows and greens I think, and blue, I love blue!! :) x

  2. Hang in with the cutting, gluing and sticking... it will be worth it in the end :O)

  3. So sweet!
Maybe I'm old fashioned in this respect but when it comes to tiny babies I still love the pink/blue thing!

  5. I wondered what you were going to tell us when I saw those bootees!! They are so sweet. I had some lovely satin baby shoes given to me for our first daughter and her feet were too big to wear them, yet as an adult she has the smallest feet in the family. I preferred blue for our youngest daughter - it suited her better than pink - and people always assumed she was a boy.

  6. Aren't they just darling? I heard a programme on Radio 4 recently which said that pink and blue were originally used the other way around for male and female...

  7. Just a thimbleful...

So sweet ! I wish I had a baby to knit them for, instead of hulking great grandsons...

    (wouldn't swap them really !)

  8. Look...we have boys...we need to do pink once in a while. You want to see what garment I bought for a new cousins baby....pink, fluffy, feathery totally impractical but I just had to.

  9. If babies aren't dressed in the traditional blue/pink I'm afraid I can't tell what sort they are. Once they get bigger, (like, 25-ish) I'm quite happy for boys to wear pink, if they're comfortable with it!

  12. oh my word they are just gorgeous! they make you broody just looking at those cutie shoes. When middle sweetpea was born she always wore her brothers hand me downs and I wasn't attracted to pink but as soon as I was pregnant with little sweetpea I craved pink things - strange as I don't even wear pink myself.

  13. I was going to say something similar to ToffeeApple. It was only at the turn of the 20th century that the changeover started, up until then it was considered far too strong a colour for weak little women to wear. They were left with calm and gentle blue!
