Ready for Market

There have been more flowers... a whole garden full...

Which have been sewn up into ponytail bands. More mass production for the Ashwell show on Monday. All I seem to have done for weeks is iron and stitch and clip and package... and then repeat the process over and over again.

There have even been a few more of these chaps that have made their way into my basket.

But if there is one thing I have learned over the past few weeks is that making to sell is not what I enjoy. I hate the whole production line aspect. I enjoy the creative side to what I do and there is always a thrill when someone buys something I have made, but I prefer to create one off, individual pieces. And you can guarantee no matter how many ponytail bands or corsages I have made someone will always ask.. "Have you got one in yellow?" (No!) So my future is not going to be craft markets and the like. But meanwhile if any of you find your way to North Herts on Bank Holiday Monday maybe I'll see you at Ashwell show... lots of equestrian events, side shows, childrens rides, food,... and of course, a craft marquee... plenty to do for the whole day for all the family. Have a great weekend!

  1. Heavens you have been busy! I too hate doing things to sell, what I like is not necessarily what other people like.
And here I have been faffing around with poppies!

  2. I totally agree with what you are saying - it soon just becomes another chore - and think postcards or cards of some of the more expensive things are nice for those that like but can't quite afford them.

  8. I agree...but its what I do. I enjoy every creation and try to learn a new thing at every session. I never make two exactly the same so it keeps thing fresh. But all that takes time and makes my work expensive!! Oh what to do...

  9. I so agree with you on this one. I hate making the same thing twice. That's what factories are for!

  10. Best of luck with the show. Sounds super. So wish I could be there.

And I actually really like mass production. Probably my obsessive compulsive nature!

  11. I agree one off's are the best, but it's the repeats that pay the bills! They all look lovely, I'm sure they will make a wonderful display.Hope the weather is fine and you get lots of sales. Have a good weekend. x

  12. Your wares are so beautifully presented and look lovely en masse. Hope you have a good weekend at the Show. I don't even take commissions as they might be something I really don't want to do and I certainly wouldn't enjoy making two dozen of anything! Well maybe, if it was for a very good cause.

  13. I understand about the production line things, I don't like making the same thing all the time either. It's much better to be creative and make one-off unique items. Hope the market goes well though and what you have made are lovely! :) x

  17. They are all so lucky to be able to buy from you. I admire people who do it, but I'm afraid it's not for me either. I'm doing something similar soon, so I need to get down to it and create something that will not be too stressful.

  20. Hi Gina! I've just been reading through all your posts since we went on holiday and you have been VERY busy!!! I love all the new sketchbook ideas and I really hope Ashwell show goes well tomorrow! I know what you mean about making things to sell - I found I lost all my enjoyment when I was mass producing but it took me a long time to wean myself off the buzz of someone actually wanting to buy something I had made! 24. I know what you mean - churning out the same thing over and over is mind-numbing. There are a few pieces that I make over and over because they sell, but I have to break off to make something new inbetween.

I really hope you had a great day. I spy some red flower pony bands. Do you have any left? A certain someone is about to go to school for the first time and she has a red uniform.

  25. Gina, I know just exactly what you mean. I've been messing around trying to make a few things that I can produce really quickly and sell really cheaply, without any embellishment or embroidery on - but I don't like them, and I don't like making them!
