Not a Tummy Bug!

Quick post -
After posting Monday evening I spent the rest of the night sitting up with Jacob while his condition gradually worsened. We ended up in A & E on Tuesday morning while my very poorly boy drifted in and out of consciousness attached to numerous drips. He has been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It's been a very long three days and a steep learning curve of blood testing, insulin injections and dietry advice but he has been amazingly brave despite feeling absolutely awful. We have weeks of monitoring and clinics ahead of us and Jacob has a lifetime of managing his condition but at least we are home this evening and hope to resume some form of normality soon.
Now to sleep... zzzzz!

PS My Mum and Dad took the puppy!

  1. Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear about Jacob. I know what a roller coaster it is but once they get the insulin stabilized, things will be better. Wow, this is life changing. Be well -- to you and your entire family.

  5. Oh my word Gina ... thank goodness you managed to find out about that. Poor Jacob. Mind you, I have a couple of friends with diabetes and know it to be a whole way of life rather than 'just' an ailment. I hope he learns to live within its boundaries.

Lots of love to you all (((hugs))) x

  7. Diabetes runs in my family so I know what you are going through. My brother has had Type 1 since he was 24. It's not stopped him from leading a full life though, he rules the diabetes and doesn't let the illness rule him.

I know nothing about Diabetes so have nothing helpful to add, but I hope that Jacob will soon adjust.

..... I also hope that he'll still be able to enjoy the odd Mojito?

  13. Poor Jacob. It must have been so frightening for you and how easy to think it was a bug after the holiday! Now that you know about the problem you will cope with it and Jacob will grow up knowing what to do and how to keep himself stable. Hugs to you all, Mags
