Still here, still painting

Once again I am wondering whether this blog has run its course. Every time I write a post I think I must do this more regularly but then I forget all about it and it is no longer in my consciousness and another three weeks goes past. I used to write twice a week but its now more like twice a month... on a good month! But I'm hanging on in there!

To be honest, Painting is taking up most of my free time and these are a couple of my most recent attempts. I'm not sure how finished they are, whether there will be minor adjustments or whether I might even paint over whole areas. It doesn't matter because I am loving it. I am loving it so much that I have now signed up for an intensive three month course called CVP. It was a big decision because not only will it require a fair bit of time but it has also been quite a financial investment. But change never happened without taking risks and I am ready for change. I'm ready to try something new.

So maybe my blog is ready for change too! Originally I set it up with the idea of recording my textile art as I embarked on a degree in stitched textiles. Not many of my original followers from those days are still around. In the intervening years there has been so much more... knitting, reading, family life and cakes... lots of cakes, but I'm not sure that is what I want to write about any more. It's art and painting that is lighting my fire... or perhaps I should say, Fanning my Flame, at the moment. I have set up a new Facebook page to share my art, where you will be most welcome to come and visit and follow me. And I think the website is almost done... I'll let you know when I have finished tweaking!

But just so you know the blog hasn't changed completely or gone forever, I'll share will you my latest knits for the grandson who really doesn't want to arrive!

There is a little cardigan from a knitsofacto pattern, a hat that I invented, that has been made twice (since the due date I might add) because the first time it was huge (I have no plans to go into pattern writing fortunately)... and a little bunny in a matching sweater from Little Cotton Rabbits.

Now all we need is a baby!

Now if you excuse me I'm going out to my studio to paint, where I will ignore the rain and howling wind,  while I wait for that phone call with news!
And the blog... I'm not really ready to give it up because letting go is hard isn't it? So I expect I'll see you again in about three weeks!

    1. Thank you Ann, I enjoy reading your blog too and your photography is a feast for the eye. But Instagram is so much easier isn’t it!

  3. Well, that's a relief! So many blogs have disappeared, I'd hate to see Fan My Flame join them (and you can post about watching paint dry, we'll still be happy reading about it!). Love those knits and paintings!

  6. I am still here, from the early days, still enjoying what you post and sometimes worrying about how busy you are. I am enjoying your paintings too so if you continue to post, I shall continue to read and enjoy! xx

  7. I still enjoy reading your blog Gina. I think many stitchers are taking different creative paths, and that is reflected in their blogging frequency and content. Please keep posting about your painting, and sending a push for your grandson to get out in the world!

  8. Well, I hope this baby arrives soon! So very exciting times. You know, there is no rule that states you have to blog weekly, or monthly. Just stop by when you fancy it and when you have time. This is your space and your life and you should follow your passions and not worry about not being here so much. I can see some great art happening in your future xx

  9. Interesting that your paintings, as we see them on your blog, almost look like fabric collages.

I prefer the fortnightly posts, it leaves space for living.

  10. You are doing better than I am. I haven't posted on my blog since the New Year and am too busy having fun making books from recycled papers, card and junk mail. I then decorate the pages. It has become quite addictive and takes my mind off all the grim news and awful weather. Love the knits for your grandson and I hope he arrives soon. Your paintings are bold and beautiful.

  11. I love it when your blog suddenly appears, I do hope that baby arrives soon. I have made a little cotton rabbit design for all my great grand babies, so simple and so affective. Lots of love in this comment, just loving your paintings, at over 80 I am finding myself so much slower which annoys me. Must go over to your other fb page. Keep on doing.

  12. I am blogging less too, I think I prefer it that way. I also prefer it when folks don't post too often otherwise it is a lot of catching up for me when I don't read them for a week!

I love your knits, especially the wee rabbit. I do hope your grandson as arrived safely.

    1. On reflection, I think I prefer slightly less frequent blogging to several times a week, easy to catch up with as you say. But I would still like to pop by once a week or so otherwise I feel a little disconnected. Grandson arrived safely last night!

  13. You write as and when! You don’t meet up with all your friends every week do you? Your blog, no rules and it’s an amazing record of our journeys. Blogs are preferable to the TV to me. The right ones are full of real people with real lives and not depressing! Just more of the things I enjoy, no matter how far apart the posts! 😄

  15. I totally understand about the blogging Gina, you've done better than most. I gave mine up a couple of years ago. There are so many other platforms for people now, podcasts, instagram and to be honest life moves on eventually. Always love your posts and your new projects but would understand if you did stop blogging. Love the baby bits and fingers crossed for news soon.

  16. You're right - Instagram is a much quicker fix, but I do like to catch up with blogs as they feel somehow more personal. I'd like to pick up my own blog. It fell by the wayside because looking after my mum took up so much of my time and restricted my social life and energy. I still feel that I'm recovering from her death in December, but hoping that my energy will resurge as Spring returns. I can't help feeling it would be good to write again. And it's always a delight and inspiration to see how much pleasure you are getting from painting.

    1. Instagram is quicker and more in the moment but I enjoy the reflection that writing a blog brings. Also I have done it for so long it almost feels part of me! I would love to see your blog pop up in my feed again. It was always a good read!
