Technicolour Dream Coat!

Several years ago I fell in love with this crochet jacket in one of the Rowan magazines (no. 48). I couldn't resist the colours...

I bought several balls of rather gorgeous felted tweed yarn and started at the beginning of one cuff

Like I said... That was several years ago!... Well, maybe two years... Or possibly three... Or even more! It did grow fairly quickly when I actually picked it up and did it, but the trouble was I would leave it to do something else and then put off picking it up again as I needed to completely reread the pattern to find out where I had got to everytime.

But over the past couple of weeks I made a concerted effort to finish it... And then started to think about all those ends to sew in...

And boy, there were a lot of ends!

But finally last week it was finished and I think I like it! In my head it was going to transform me into the beautiful model in the magazine. Am I the only one who does that...?

So a bit disappointed it to find it hasn't transformed me into a supermodel and is still just me... but in a fancy jacket!  But it is a very warm and cosy fancy jacket.

And now I might actually get around to finishing one or two other projects that have been hanging around for more than a year or two!

  1. Fantastic jacket. You appear to be transformed into a "I finally finished this jacket and am very pleased with myself" woman. I think you should put a photo of all those 'ends' on your fridge to remind yourself how well you've done or never to do it again. Depends on how the mood takes you.

  2. I think that is fantastic. My dream is to crochet something to wear that is not yet another scarf. Perhaps not this adventurous. Brilliant and you look really pleased with it. Keep you super warm

  4. I think you look great!! What a gorgeous jacket, and that shawl collar looks mighty cozy. Kudos to you for finding your place again and finishing it off. The pattern looks very complex. I have to always make a notation of what row etc I'm on if I leave my knitting for even a minute!

  7. Hi Gina! You did an amazing job. I love the colours of the jacket. It doesn't matter how long it has taken you to finish it. What is important is that your jacket is done and you can enjoy its warmth and colours.
By the way, you are not the only one ;-)

  8. Fantastic! I sometimes think we have more of a buzz from finally finishing and old project than we do from a new one.

  14. Oh wow Gina -- it's beautiful! I love all the pretty colors. And I can definitely relate to your picking it up and then putting it down -- that's how I ended up with a 10-year sweater. If I'd just kept up with it, it certainly wouldn't have taken 10 years! Congratulations on a great finish!!!

  15. It looks really terrific Gina. I too have the pattern, dating from long before I learned to crochet - you've inspired me to take a serious look at it! I let you know if it ever happens.

  16. Gina, I've also got that Rowan book and love just about every design in it.

The yarn is lovely, and the colors...well, they are gorgeous in their richly muted harmonies. I love your jacket...you look grand in it! Imagine how many years you will be having the pleasure of this coat of many colors.

    Bravo! xo

  19. What a fantastic jacket, I love it, and it suits you very well, you're an inspiration. I bought some beautiful Alpaca/ Marino at K&S the year before last and its a Drops pattern, which is gorgeous but looses info in translation, so it's still at the tension square stage, sadly.

  21. It's wonderful! A real labour of love, and it suits you really well. I have never tried to crochet a garment other than winter accessories, but I'd like to try something like a top or poncho maybe. x

  23. Gorgeous, so glad you got around to finishing it. If it makes you feel good that's all that matters. Supermodels are overrated anyway!
