Tea Break

After taking a huge bag to the dump, six bags to the charity shop and having filled my recycling box with old magazines, I've still not finished clearing up my studio. There will be photos when I've done but today I needed a break from the clearing and cleaning.

Having cleared a path to my sewing machine I transformed a couple of old embroidered tray cloths into a pair of tea cosies.

Adding a little free machine embroidery to complement the hand stitching.

A pretty addition to the one I made last week.

And I'm pleased that I hadn't cleared out these old embroideries but instead have given them a new lease of life.

And while I was in the mood I made half a dozen cards too...

After all, not much point in having a clean and tidy studio for Open Studios if I haven't got anything to sell!

Now I must dash... I'm typing this with half an eye on the football "Come on England".

  2. I love the teacosies!!!! They are fabulous and a great reworking of the tray cloths. I have got several of that sort of thing that I inherited from my late mother in law and never know what to do with them, perhaps I should make them into new things! Thank you for the inspiration. Love the cards too, hope that they go down well at the open studios. xx

  4. It's lovely to see those old embroidered items recycled and rejuvenated so beautifully. I love the cards too. I'm tired this evening and the very thought of all you have done today makes me even more so!

  7. The tea cozies are very sweet Gina. I love these old embroidered cloths, and still use them on my own dresser (I'm so old fashioned). It's nice to see them made into something new though, it gives them a fresh look. Very cute cards :) Good luck with the open studio tour! Wendy x

  9. What a brilliant idea, they retain the relevance to tea that way.

I like the cards too, another good idea.

  12. What a lovely idea to use the tea tray embroideries in a new product. I remember doing similar embroideries when I was about 12!

  15. I thought you used all your tray cloths in that bunting for the Jubilee in Cambridge but I see you are a serial hoarder like myself!Fabulous cosies and cards but they are really displacement activity rather than get on with the task in hand. You know it. I know it. So get on with the clear out and preparation for Open Studios and I hope they can pick their way through your hoard and buy lots of gorgeous things.

  16. 6 bags to charity, that is quite astonishing! You certainly deserved a break. I love the tea cosies you make. One of these days I am going to try machine embroidery, I will. I hope the remaining clearing up will be quick and a bit easier. x

    That embroidered teacosy is stunning.

Our entire cottage is in a terrible mess. Well done for clearing things out. I really need to tackle the mountains too x
