As Good as it Gets

It started with some early morning baking... apricot and marmalade muffins. I can't tell you how good my house smelled... a welcome change from the usual slightly stale sock smell that always seems to linger around in a house of young men... or is that only my house?

This was followed by a mile and a half walk to the neighbouring village to buy a newspaper and share the muffins with some friends who had invited us over for morning coffee.

Then a brisk walk home between rain showers and just time to gets some soup cooking

before we were joined by my step daughter and her partner for lunch.

There was no time to bake bread so I made savoury cheese scones instead.... which were rather too moreish and I ate more than I intended!

And then in the afternoon there was time for a little bit of a play in my sketchbook...

... drawing, cutting and sticking!

And then even time to get some stitching done too.

Stewart has cooked supper... (under close supervision, he wants to learn to cook) which was delicious, we've shared a bottle of wine and now I'm about to relax with a cuppa and my knitting.

A day doesn't get much better really... food, friends, family and stitching... just lovely!

  8. Look, this is all very well and you know how fond I am of you.... but why are you doing all of this when you could be getting on with that bag pattern? Seriously, the cakes and the scones look delicious and really I just envy the fact that you're a domestic goddess and I will never be anything other than an 'also ran' in the kitchen stakes!

  10. Your day does sound rather perfect, Gina. I begin to get a better idea of how you do all that you do. This particular day seems to have had the perfect mix of exercise, seeing friends and family, kitchen creativity, sketchbook play and exploration and some fabulous stitching.

It all seems so much of a fine flow. xo

  11. Indeed, it sounds like the perfect day -- good food, a little sketching and beautiful sewing. Perhaps you'll even be relieved of your cooking duties LOL!

  12. It does sound like a rather perfect day :)

Are those wholemeal scones Gina? And if so do you use any particular recipe? I love cheese scones but struggle to get great results using wholemeal flour.

  13. I think your Stewart and mine were separated at birth, mine loves to cook too and his repertoire is growing. The muffins look delicious! Not to mention the cheese scones, Stewart's favourite!

  15. the smell ! I believe it oozes from their heads beginning at about 12 yrs old. It is the festiest foulest stench ever. Later it is joined by body odour and foot odour and who knows what else - then if you are truly unlucky they spray half a can of dog-on-heat deodorant over the top of it. !
Oops sorry I recognize the beautiful things in the blog post but i am clearly damaged by the boy-stench.

  16. Those muffins look delicious!
I visited the Spectrum exhibition at Art Van Go this week and was, as always, given a warm welcome by Kevin and his colleagues. There was plenty of space to have a careful look at the beautiful pieces of work, which were well displayed.I certainly appreciated Catriona's detailed sketchbook which demonstrated the design elements behind her lovely wallhanging I thought your bag was so rich and glorious Gina! The piece Talloires Reflections by Sheila Potterill was one of my favourite exhibits. Well done to you all.
