What a Difference a Day Makes

Our various trials and tribulations are still ongoing but a shift in perspective has made the past few days easier, helped enormously be the arrival of warm dry weather. Nothing like a bit of sunshine to lift the spirits. I felt like baking again for the first time in ages and made some granola bars, just for us. That was on Thursday but they are gone now. I'd forgotten how quickly cakes disappear in this house. When I first met Stewart he told me he didn't have a sweet tooth... Oh how we laugh about that now!

I also made a savoury 'cake' for supper. Not a cake at all really but a vegetable pasta bake that just happens to be made in a cake tin. It was rather fabulous and I'll definitely be making it again. Joe sent me the link to the recipe (you can find it here) all the way from Costa Rica. He's been growing vegetables in his little back yard so I think he must have been Googling vegetarian recipes.

It was meant to feed six... it fed three of us. Just saying!

I've cracked on with the wedding waistcoats and have now finished the third one, in a lovely pale mint green linen. This one is for the groom. Number four is cut out ready to go.

We've also worked in the garden, tidying and weeding and making the most of the lovely bank holiday weekend weather... my newly finished warm shawl obviously did the trick and has been consigned to the back of the wardrobe until autumn... let's hope I've not been a bit premature!

I hope your bank holiday weekend is going well too!

  1. So pleased to hear that you are feeling better about everything. The warmth and sunshine have perked us all up. We have waited long enough. The veggie cake sounds very good and even if you ate a little too much, you can tell yourselves it was healthy!

  4. What a beautiful job you've made of the waistcoat, it's gorgeous. Lovely baking. Cookies and bars don't last long in this house either, it's shocking. Hope you have a lovely day, and I'm glad things are at least feeling a little lighter. CJ xx

  6. The sun does make a difference, I am sure of it :-) glad you are feeling more upbeat. I do like the look of this pasta cake, must follow the link after I publish this comment. I told Richard that I liked Brussels sprouts when we first met. I eat them but I am not terribly fond of sprouts. Richard still insists that I was fibbing my way into his heart and we still laugh about it.

Wishing you a lovely week. May the sun be with us for a good while now xx

  8. Great to hear that life is looking up a bit. The waistcoat looks wonderful. I hope the ladies in the party have equally gorgeous outfits or they will be well outshone by the males! We had a holiday weekend here too for Labour Day, but the weather turned miserable on Monday. We spent the day at home so did not worry us. Cheers

  11. The waistcoat looks perfect. You're so skilful, you really are. Your edible makes look good, too. Sweet stuff doesn't hang around in thee tin here either but that's all down to me. I don't remember always being such a piggie.
