I confess I have a bit of a magazine habit... especially at this time of year.
I can't resist the promises of "Your easiest Christmas ever", "Every Christmas recipe you'll ever need", " Original present ideas for all"... and heaven help us "Nigella's 12 steps to Christmas sanity". Right... and I believe in Father Christmas too!
I guess it's a triumph of optimism over experience really, although the reality is I won't have time to read half of them and I do things the same as I've always done.
How about you? What magazines do you like to read?
Our library service has a brilliant free app to use provided by RB digital and I download all of the magazines you have there, and many more. I like The Simple Things too. Great comfort reading in bed. And while it's definitely not as satisfying as the paper version there's no angst about getting rid of them when you're done.
ReplyDeleteI can see the appeal from a recycling point of view but I find it harder to read from a screen so try to limit my screen time. I have a kindle for books but find I don't enjoy the books so much or they take me longer to get into them.
DeleteThese days, I don't buy many magazines but the Christmas editions always end up in the shopping trolley. Found them a tad disappointing this year, though. What do you mean about Father Christmas???
ReplyDeleteI've always read Good Housekeeping - following on from my mother who had a subscription all her married life. Recently, I haven't bought so many because I became conscious of the amount of recycling I was creating. I'm considering changing to digital but it isn't quite the same. I'm also a bit appalled at the way prices are rising and content seems to be reducing. Always buy something to read if I'm travelling.
ReplyDeleteI used to buy loads of magazines but became aware of the number of adverts they contained even though the price seemed to rise quite regularly. My husband was happy to have the same thing every Christmas and now there is just me to cook for and I am invited out this Christmas I limit myself to Landscape and/or Landlove magazines, which ever I can find at my local newsagent. They are a delight all year round.
ReplyDeleteI love magazines too, though tend just to buy the Christmas editions, but the one I love most of all is the free Waitrose magazine! It has lots of great recipes :)
ReplyDeleteI really like that too but don't have a Waitrose near enough for me to shop there regularly.
DeleteMy favourite is Country Homes and Interiors!
ReplyDeleteI still hoard / cherish 12 issues from 1996 when I worked in Zurich and used to buy them to read on the train home.
DeleteSainsburys mag has good recipes but I agree that the general content seems to be reduced, I think I have years of the Christmas editions.
ReplyDeleteSainsbury's mag is one of my favourites too!
DeleteI used to like getting a quilting magazine and a mixed media one, but it became too expensive to have them shipped to me in Latvia. I liked settling down for a good read and I always keep them, which in itself becomes a bit of a problem. Maybe time for a re-read, I could ration myself to one a month :D
ReplyDeleteI loved magazines a lot, but gave them up as the prices and advertisements rose and the actual articles decreased. Now I read blogs and look at pretty pictures on Pinterest. I especially love blogs like yours!
ReplyDeleteThank you... that is so kind x
DeleteI used to subscribe to Country Living but then realised that there were more adverts than content, so I gave it up.
