Advent 2016 - thirteen

When I was just a little girl, many, many years ago, we would often go into London to the West End to see Selfridges' windows and the lights in Regents Street at this time of year.

But nowadays all I have to do is stroll down the street...

And every year we are treated to a spectacular display, that is quite the talk of our village.

I know it might not be to everyone's taste, but it's harmless fun and makes us smile. My friend who lives opposite calls it Disneyland...  my photos really don't do it justice.

And that reminds me... It's probably time I took the decorations down from the loft!

  1. I know the Taste Police get up in arms but it's harmless fun. There's a little semi in another part of this town that, as well as being dressed with the usual strings of colour and penguins on the grass, turns the garage into a sparkling nativity scene. With almost full size Mary and Joseph. It's all done for charity.

  2. yes we have a bit of that here too and it seems becomes somewhat of a competition at times between neighbours which actually is quite amusing!! Some people do it for charity which is lovely!

  3. I find it amusing too, but there's a lot of moaning around here -as if it's causing permanent detriment to the house values! People can be rather cheerless.

  5. Isn't funny to see how extravantly some folks light up their houses. Sometimes an entire street, or neighborhood will "go electric" for Christmas, but sometimes it's just one brave family that light up the night. xo

  6. I bet the local children love seeing all those colourful lights. I shall put our tree up at the weekend and hope it gets me in the festive mood. I tend to be a bit 'Bah Humbug' these days.

  7. The child in me enjoys the extravagance some people go to in adding sparkle to their homes. I might feel differently if I lived opposite!

  8. Fabulous! There's a house near here that goes all out as well. In fact they have a collection for charity each year and raise over £2k. I remember going to Cavendish House in Cheltenham when I was little to see the Christmas window display. Loved it. CJ xx

  9. I have a very kind Mexican fellow on my street that LOVES to fill his yard with as many lights as possible. His house actually has a glow above it at night! He does a great job and I like to slow down when I drive by. I don't have the same ambition and don't have any lights outside (much to my daughter's dismay). Your neighbour's lights look very cheery!
