What... No Cake?

There has been no cake in the house for the past three days. My family think I am executing some sort of deprivation torture. So this afternoon I whipped them up a chocolate sponge with vanilla buttercream. But what they don't know is this could be the last cake for a while...

For at the weekend, Sam is moving out to pastures new and going to live in a flat in Cambridge. This means that until Joe comes home (not imminent as he is still in New Zealand without a passport) there will only be three of us at home.

Despite baking it, I don't really eat that much cake. Jacob, being diabetic really shouldn't eat that much cake and Stewart... well he doesn't need to eat that much cake... (although he might not agree)

Do you think they will notice the reduction in cake output? I know you will...

  6. Wot? No cake! But you know that one of my hobbies has become the recording of your cake mentions and consumption thereof. Are you trying to get your own back for sending you off on that long haul internet trawl? As a bona fide 'domestic goddess' I'm sure you'll find something else to make to tempt their tastebuds!

  8. I have been known to freeze cake in individual portions. Not altogether popular, but it's quite satisfying to be able to rummage in the freezer and find something for teatime!

  10. I should perhaps make more cakes but I don't because like many others here I shouldn't, but then again my hubby perhaps should. At this time of the year he has difficulty keeping the weight on due to being so active working our land. I am inside studying and so cakes are not so necessary but a welcome distraction.

  13. You can easily freeze cake. Or at least portions of it.

  18. I don't suppose serving them "pictures" of cake, would do, would it? I love cake, adore it, and I do so wish I was more talented in the cake-making department. At least, I have a good excuse to practice, practice, practice!

  19. Hmmm, might have to start making my own now then!
